Montford Point Marine Corps veterans, John Spencer and F. M. Hooper, express what the meaning of the upcoming Montford Point Marine Memorial Gifting Ceremony means to them. The Montford Point Marine Association will host a gifting ceremony bestowing the National Montford Point Marine Memorial to the Department of the Navy, July 25, 2018. The memorial was built to honor the approximately 20,000 African-Americans who joined the Marine Corps during World War II. Lt. Gen. Robert F. Hedelund, II Marine Expeditionary Force commanding general, will accept the memorial on behalf of the Secretary of the Navy. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Pfc. Antonio Garcia)
