Soldiers from the U.S. Army and personnel from the Japan Self Defense Force share combat medicine techniques during Orient Shield 2018 (OS18). Since its inception in 1985, Orient Shield has focused on the development and refinement of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and U.S. Army’s efforts in the areas of bilateral planning, coordination and interoperability. This exercise underscores a continued commitment by the United States and Japan to work as dedicated partners in support of the Japan-U.S. security alliance and for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
