Ruth B. Cunningham, Coast Guard Medical Corpsman 2nd Class, shares memories from her time in the Coast Guard’s Women’s Reserve, Semper Paratus Always Ready, better known as SPARS. At the height of World War II, Cunningham volunteered for SPARS where she attended to the medical needs of those deploying and returning from the war.
