Together with their dogs, they search for explosives in luggage at the airport in Camp Marmal and at the civilian airport in Mazar-e-Sharif. They also search for explosives at the post office at Camp Marmal. The Croatian K9 team consists of experts, and that goes for both the dog handlers and the dogs themselves. Novak has been a dog handler for 25 years and is currently on his second mission in Afghanistan and Leo, his dog, is on his first mission in Afghanistan. Belajevic has been a dog handler for 13 years; he is on his fourth mission in Afghanistan together with his dog Aga. Searching for explosives is a joint effort; the dog searches by sniffing packages, luggage, etc. The dog handler makes sure the dog has searched everything before he places simulated explosives for the dog to find during the training. In fact, the dog always needs to find what he has been trained to look for. Once the dog has found the placed explosives, the dog is rewarded with his toy, with which he plays together with his handler.
