U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agriculture Specialists work diligently throughout the holiday season in Detroit and along the Northern Border to inspect Christmas trees crossing the border looking for pests that can potentially cause harm to the nation’s agricultural economy. As part of the process CBP Agriculture Specialist shake the pine needles out of trees, which allows the bugs to fall though as well. Agriculture Specialists will then examine the fallen needles for invasive pests that could potentially cause a devastating effect on U.S. agriculture.
