SAN CLEMENTE ISLAND, Calif.- BQM 74E turbojet-powered aerial targets are launched onboard Naval Auxiliary Landing Field San Clemente Island during a Live Fire with a Purpose (LFWAP) event supporting Boxer Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), Commander, Destroyer Squadron 31 (COMDESRON THREE ONE), and Commander, Destroyer Squadron 21 (COMDESRON TWENTY-ONE) Dec. 18, 2018. The LFWAP program is executed by Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) and Surface Warfare Advance Tactical Training (SWATT). Amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4), amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), guided missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110), guided missile destroyer USS Gridley (DDG 101), and guided missile destroyer USS Momsen (DDG 92) took part in the event. Naval Base Coronado is a conglomerate of eight Naval installations stretching from San Clemente Island, located 70 miles west of San Diego, to the La Posta Warfare Training Facility, located 60 miles east of San Diego.
