Japan Ground Self Defense Force members participate in the non-combative evacuation (NEO) portion of the Cobra Gold exercise. The purpose of the drill is so that partner nations can work together during humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) and security type scenarios. Exercise Cobra Gold is the largest Theater Security Cooperation exercise in the Indo-Pacific region
and is an integral part of the U.S. Commitment to strengthen engagement in the region.
