The Tohoku Earthquake hit off the coast of Japan March 11, 2011 at 2:46 p.m., triggering a tsunami that reached heights up to 130 feet and traveled six miles inland. At 9.0 on the Richter Scale, it was the largest earthquake ever recorded in Japan.
Following the disaster, Japan and it's foreign nation allies began the long journey toward recovery. Amongst the U.S. Military, the mission was dubbed Operation Tomodachi.
