On May 23, 2019, Sasebo community members took time out of their day to remember those who gave all at the Soto Dam. Soto Dam was built during WWII by POWs from both America and Japan for the then Japanese Naval port in Sasebo. Since 1956 the city of Sasebo has held a ceremony to remember their sacrifice. This year's ceremony had participants from the U.S. and Japanese Navies along with community members of Sasebo.
