Chief Warrant Officer 3 Anson Smith of Detachment One, B Co., 1-168th General Support Aviation Battalion participates in environmental qualifications or "dust landings" in order to teach newer pilots and crew members how to land safely utilizing the helicopter's advanced flight control systems. Smith and the flight platoon from the Oregon Army National Guard are at the National Training Center (NTC) supporting 3-116th Cavalry Combat Team out of Idaho in a simulation training exercise.
The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team is training at the National Training Center May 24 through June 20 to prepare for its wartime mission. The rotation builds unit and Soldier proficiency to provide combatant commanders with a trained and ready force capable of fighting and winning our nation's wars.
