DeGlopper was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the invasion of Normandy. His personal sacrifice and actions allowed the men of his unit to live and assisted the 82nd Airborne Division in securing a strategically important area at the La Fiere causeway near the Merderet River.
