A roughly 1,000 pound, World War II-era, air-laid mine (A Mark I - VI) explodes off the coast of Germany in the Baltic Sea. The unexploded ordnance was discovered by an 11-nation Mine Warfare Task Group during the BALTOPS 2019 exercise. BALTOPS is the premier annual maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic Region, marking the 47th year of one of the largest exercises in Northern Europe enhancing flexibility and interoperability among allied and partner nations.
