Sergeant Antonio Rubio speaks about the Battles Won Academy in Washington, D.C., July 14 2019. The Battles Won Academy is a part of the Marine Corps’ Semper Fidelis All-American Program, which recognizes young men and women who excel in athletics, but have also shown themselves to be leaders in the classroom and in their communities. The program provides Marines with several opportunities to purposefully engage the student leaders and share leadership lessons that will enhance their future success. Nearly 100 high school student-athletes were selected to attend the academy, which runs through July 14 and focuses on developing their self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and honing the fighting spirit that embodies the Marine Corps.
