NAVAL SUPPORT FACILITY REDZIKOWO, Poland (Sept. 13, 2019) – Volunteer firefighters from the local region of Słupsk municipality toured the Naval Support Facility Redzikowo Sept. 13, 2019. The new American base is home to the Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense System(AABMDS) in Poland, which is still under construction. The commander of the base, U.S. Navy Capt. Jon Grant, wanted to ensure members from the local fire brigade had the opportunity to see first-hand the new facilities as the base gets closer to being fully operational. The 12 volunteer firefighters who came for the tour were particularly interested in seeing the new fire station that will house three trucks and be staffed by a cadre of Polish firefighters and emergency medical personnel in the coming years. The base is located near the town of Redzikowo (pronounced Red-jick-ko-vo) and spans nearly 340 square acres. It will eventually employ dozens of host-nation personnel when the base is fully operational which is projected for sometime in late 2020. (Video by U.S. Navy Lt. Amy Forsythe, Public Affairs Officer, Naval Support Facility Redzikowo)
