U.S. Marine 1st Lt. Garyth Barnes, the executive officer for Company A, 7th Communication Battalion, discusses the training benefits offered by the communication exercise, at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 27, 2019. Barnes, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, said the training offered his Marines an opportunity to perform their duties in a real world scenario, better preparing them for any future operations. Marines took part not only in communication related tasks, but part of the training focused on the unit’s ability to deploy small fire teams in support of long-range rapid deployments where the Marine Corps will need to establish austere bases.
