NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Oct. 25, 2019)— October is breast cancer awareness month, during which Sailors aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) recognize survivors and honor lives lost from the disease. Deployed Resiliency Counselor Felita Davis and Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Steven Salgado offer advice for women and families, and Sailors participate in a 5k. George Washington is undergoing a refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a nearly four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling of the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repair, upgrades and modernization.
