The U.S. Naval War College’s Luce Hall is named after Rear Adm. Stephen B. Luce. Luce proposed an idea to the U.S. Department of the Navy of an institution dedicated to the advanced study of war. On October 6, 1884, Secretary of the Navy William E. Chandler signed General Order 325 establishing the U.S. Naval War College, bringing Luce’s vision to life.
