U.S. Army 1st Lt. Sarah Beard, a Danville, Indiana native, trains for the Olympic Trials at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Georgia. In these video clips, Beard is shown shooting from two of the three required positions (kneeling, standing and prone) in the Olympic Smallbore event. Beard is attempting to make the 2020 Olympic Team in both the 50m Smallbore event and the 10m Air Rifle event (not shown in these clips). Competitors will be selected from the top shooting sports athletes from around the United States after two Olympic Trials.
After the Smallbore Olympic Trials - Part 1, Beard, who is the daughter of 1984 William Beard, sits in sixth place. After the Air Rifle Olympic Trials - Part 1, she is currently in second place. Air Rifle Olympic Trials- Part 2 will be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado Feb. 7-9, 2020. Smallbore Olympic Trials - Part 2 will be held at Fort Benning, Georgia March 29-31, 2020.
Note: 1st Lt. Sarah Beard is a U.S. Army Reserve Soldier who is assigned to the World Class Athlete Program and attached to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. Her father also served on both active duty and in the Army Reserve for over 20 years and retired as a major. He trained with the USAMU at Fort Benning as well.
