The Hawaii National Guard CERFP Team and the Utah National Guard HERF recently joined forces in an exercise to rehearse their response to a disaster and demonstrate their capabilities while practicing transfer of authority during their response.
Lt. Col. Justin Butcher, Exercise Director, Army Interagency Training and Education Center, West Virginia Army National Guard
During the exercise role-players were brought in to add realism and to test the limits of the medical processing portion of the response.
Lt. Col. James Faumuina, Commander Medical Detachment, Hawaii Air National Guard
This exercise was unique because it brought response unites from two separate FEMA regions the Hawaii National Guard CERFP and Utahs HERF,
Lt. Col. Justin Butcher, Exercise Director, Army Interagency Training and Education Center, West Virginia Army National Guard
The combined play in this exercise provided the units the opportunity to practice responding to a domestic tragedy over an extended time frame.
Lt. Col. James Faumuina, Commander Medical Detachment 1, Hawaii Air National Guard
This exercise went beyond the initial phase of disaster management to the eventual passing of responsibility to a larger force to transition to stability operations.
Col. Eric Wiedmier, Utah National Guard CBRN Task Force.
