Master Chief Petty Officer Rekiya Janssen shares a small part of her journey to becoming the first African-American female machinery technician master chief in Coast Guard history. Janssen currently serves as the engineering petty officer aboard the newly commissioned Coast Guard Cutter Daniel Tarr, the service's 36th fast response cutter.
