BREMERHAVEN, GERMANY - Members of the press had the opportunity to witness the unloading of the first U.S.-based equipment to arrive in Europe for DEFENDER-Europe 20.
The tracked vehicles, wheeled vehicles and other equipment arrived at the Port of Bremerhaven, Germany, Feb. 21, as the first of 1,200 pieces for use by 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.
U.S., U.K. and German leaders provided remarks during the port operations: Lt. Gen. Christopher Cavoli, U.S. Army Europe commanding general; German Lt. Gen. Martin Schelleis, Joint Support and Enabling Service chief; Maj. Gen. Christopher Mohan, 21st Theater Sustainment Command commanding general; Darion Akins, Department of State consul general (Hamburg); and U.K. Brigadier Joseph Chestnutt, 104th Logistic Support Brigade commander, answered questions on a wide range of subjects related to the exercise.
Exercise DEFENDER-Europe 20 demonstrates the U.S. military's ability to rapidly deploy a large combat-credible force from the U.S. to Europe to support NATO and respond to any crisis.
