200427-N-EV253-1010 NEW YORK (April 27, 2020) - Civil service mariner Joseph Watts, chief engineer aboard the hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), was instrumental in implementing engineering controls in order to mitigate transmission rates of COVID-19 while the ship was in New York City. Comfort cares for critical and non-critical patients without regard for their COVID-19 status. Comfort is working with the Javits New York Medical Station as an integrated system to relieve the New York City medical system, in support of the U.S. Northern Command’s Defense Support of Civil Authorities as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.(U.S. Navy video by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Sara Eshleman)
