Lead: As USAG Humphreys continues to grow in the Pacific, Jay Mann takes us to a ceremony for a new building for people new to Camp Humphreys.
Tag: Humphreys is certainly living up to the role of being the largest overseas U.S. military installation.
A groundbreaking ceremony for a new wing of Army Lodging, was held today (April 29) near the grounds where it will be built, near Lanier Pedestrian Park and the Legal Center (Bldg. 6410).
U.S. Army Garrison Commander Col. Michael Tremblay hosted the ceremony. Eighth Army Commanding General Michael A. Bills and Eighth Army Command Sergeant Major Jason Schmidt, were in attendance. They, along with Master Sgt. Marc Benjamin, the acting USAG Humphreys command sergeant major, turned over the first ceremonial shovels of dirt.
The project, expected to be completed by 2024, will support families PCSing in and out of Korea, with a total of 63 rooms consisting of 37 extended stays and 26 family suites.
This new facility will offer lodging to Soldiers and families at a most desirable location within USAG Humphreys. Families will be within a few blocks of many essential services and amenities, as well as schools, athletic facilities, and a fitness center, while also being close to all of USAG Humphreys' critical offices at Maude Hall.
The lodging facility will be five floors, and will include parking, and a children's playground in the back of the building.
