Chaplain (Maj.) Mark A. Johnston, Opp, Alabama native and 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade chaplain, visits Yakushi-Ike Park, Machida, Tokyo and shares a story of suicide prevention to shed light on how a Soldier’s battle buddy was able to help save his friend’s life. Chaplain Johnston highlights the importance of remaining ready and resilient during the COVID-19 pandemic with Military Community Members who are aware of potential suicide risk in themselves and others; that are help seeking; that know how to access available suicide prevention resources, and that constantly strive to reach the aspirational goal of zero suicides.
Efforts to enhance well-being, mental fitness, resiliency, and the development of life skills in Service Members will have significant impact on preventing suicide. These efforts must include all areas of fitness: physical, psychological, family, social, spiritual, financial, vocational, and emotional.
If you or anyone you know needs help, please dont hesitate to talk to your Chain of Command, Supervisor, Chaplain, or Behavioral Health Professional or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (8255), press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line.
