SASEBO, Japan (May 22, 2020) Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo Chief Staff Officer, Cmdr. Doug Kennedy, and Command Master Chief Rudy Johnson, visited the Soto Dam Memorial on May 22, 2020 to present flowers in honor of the sacrifices of the 53 American POWS and 14 Japanese laborers who gave their lives building the dam during World War II. The small observance was held in lieu of the large publically attended ceremony normally held over Memorial Day Weekend which was canceled this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
