Fort Hunter Liggett is a unique military installation with more than 160,000 acres and 30 diverse training areas which represent more than 20 percent of the landscapes around the globe.

Terrain from mountains to relatively flat areas accommodate Military Operations in Urban Terrain with MOUT villages and Tactical Training Bases. To accommodate air operations, the installation controls up to twenty-four thousand feet of restricted airspace.

Thirteen fixed ranges enable live fire for all small arms weapons, from pistol to 50-caliber heavy machine guns.

Fort Hunter Liggett also has a live hand grenade range, M203 grenade launcher range, light/heavy demo range, and training areas that can support various aerial gunnery live fires.

The Army owns a 17-mile tank trail which connects Fort Hunter Liggett with Camp Roberts, a National Guard installation to the southeast.

This partnership expands the training capacity of both installations and allows training units to replicate real world combat missions, such as movement to contact and convoy operations.

Fort Hunter Liggett also differs from other military installations in that there is no dedicated impact area.

This allows training units to set up a 360-degree live fire range anywhere in the training corridor, as long as the Surface Danger Zone doesn’t leave the installation.

This allows non-traditional military units to train as they would fight in combat.

The three-mile live fire Convoy Range consists of eight different objectives along the course. This range is equipped with moving targets, stationary vehicle targets and personnel targets.

The IED TRAINING LANE assists in the overall asymmetric warfare operational training environment offered here at Fort Hunter-Liggett. This training lane was designed to replicate complex enemy engagements. It uses all IED switch types and incorporates complex attacks that are currently being conducted by enemy combatants around the world. This training challenges leadership and illustrates the complexity and versatility of the Improvised Explosive Device.

The Multi-Purpose Range Complex supports vehicle platform gunnery, with targets from 800 meters out to 7,000 meters.
The range will support all types of vehicle mounted weapons for practice and qualification.

The installation recently added a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle course with 12 stations requiring drivers to maneuver through various rugged driving conditions, including rock piles and logs.

Fort Hunter Liggett is proud to support all branches of the military and our international allies.
