This 26" thick section of armor plate, meant for a Japanese Yamato class battleship, was found at the Kure Naval Base in Japan after the end of WWII and brought back to the US for testing. The damage is the result of a 16" US naval shell impacting it during ballistic testing at the Dahlgren Naval Proving Ground in Dahlgren, VA, in October of 1946. Learn about the tests it went through here!
