We’re celebrating Month of the Military Child with an inspiring three-episode talk with Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg: Parenting In An Age Of Uncertainty.

    Episode 1:
Strategies to Create Calming Spaces in Uncertain Times – When the world feels uncertain, it is critical our children and adolescents know they have a space they can return to where life will feel stable. However, the most important is having a person they can turn to who will allow them to feel calm and secure.

    Episode 2:
Self- Care and Self-Reflection in Uncertain Times – During moments of uncertainty, we all become self-critical and begin to imagine the worst. Instead, we have to look at these times as an opportunity to model for our children how to build resilience. The starting points are self-compassion and being able to manage our thoughts so we can focus our energies on things we can control.

    Episode 3:
Managing Stress in Uncertain Times - Strengthening Human Connections First – During times of stress, we can either turn to quick, easy solutions that may harm us or use strategies that will strengthen our well-being. When we consider healthy strategies, one that comes to the top is reaching out to other people for support, guidance, and togetherness.

Kenneth R. Ginsburg MD, MSEd, is a Professor of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He practices social adolescent medicine — medicine with special attention to prevention and the recognition that social context and stressors impact upon both physical and emotional health. The theme that ties together his clinical practice, teaching, research and advocacy efforts is that of building on the strength of teenagers by fostering their internal resilience.

He is the Co-Director of the Center for Parent and Teen Communication, which promotes the health, character and well-being of adolescents through education, research and advocacy. He is also the Medical Director for Covenant House, Pennsylvania, a care system that serves homeless, street and marginalized youth in Philadelphia.

Dr. Ginsburg lectures widely to national and international parent and professional audiences. He has also worked closely with the U.S. military, Boys and Girls Club of America, National Congress of American Indians and the Military Child Education Coalition to deepen the role of resilience-building strategies in their programming.
