USS Toledo (SSN 769) entered Dry Dock 2 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) May 1. The Los Angeles-class submarine arrived at NNSY Jan. 21 for an Engineered Overhaul which requires approximately 437,000 workdays to replace, repair, and overhaul components throughout the boat. Toledo remained pierside for an extended period due to Dry Dock 2 undergoing maintenance upgrades to its caisson, flood wall, and piping as part of the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program (SIOP), which is dedicated to completely refurbishing the nation’s four public shipyards by modernizing equipment, improving workflow and upgrading dry docks and facilities.
