The Liberty Promise, a commercial vessel from New York, came in to the port at Alexandroupoli, Greece, May 5, and members of the 839th Transportation Battalion Surface Deployment and Distribution Command started offloading over 300 pieces of equipment in support of DEFENDER-Europe 21. Equipment included trailers, humvees, and aviation assets for transportation all over Europe. The Alexandroupoli Port has become increasingly important for the U.S. Army in recent years. The port is located in the strategically important southern European region and is an example of how the number and range of ports the U.S. Army can employ have expanded across the theater. In addition to current DEFENDER-Europe 21 operations, the port has also supported Atlantic Resolve rotations. (Video by Spc. Katelyn Myers)
