Maj. Gen. John Batiste, commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division, and the provincial governor of the Salah ad Din, give a press conference on operations in Samarra, Iraq and take questions from the media about the attack to free Samarra at the beginning of October. The governor speaks in Arabic and the English translation is barely audible. Maj. Gen. Batiste talks about plans to improve life in Samarra, plans to rid the area of anti-Iraqi forces, the fact that only Iraqi troops entered religious sites during the response to the October 1st attack, the success of the Samarra operation and subsequent reconstruction efforts, the current safety of Samarra and services now available to help the people.
