The U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District is nearing completion on Perry County Levee’s rehabilitation.
The levee was damaged during the historic Arkansas River spring flood of 2019 when the entire levee system was overtopped and breached in nine locations and damaged in 19 areas. The total cost of the levee repair was about $1.1 million.
The Perry County Levee is active in USACE's Rehabilitation Inspection Program. Under Public Law 84-99, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has authority to supplement local efforts in the repair of both federal and non-federal flood risk management projects damaged by flood. Repairs are limited to restoration to pre-flood levels of protection.
Eleven levees in the Corps' RIP were damaged or breached during the flood. The district has been diligently working to get the levees restored to their authorized level of flood risk management.
