U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. David M. Potter, sergeant major of 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group, is awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Aug. 4, 2021. Potter was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps medal, the highest non-combat decoration, for actions of heroism on Sept. 13, 2020, while hiking to Ta-Taki Falls in Kunigami, Okinawa, where he saved a woman and her child from drowning during a flash flood. 3d MLG, based out of Okinawa, Japan, is a forward deployed combat unit that serves as III Marine Expeditionary Force’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
