A Pentagon renovation during the late 1990s and early 2000s incorporated design elements from years of research by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in blast effects and anti-terrorism building design. During the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, that research would be put to the test, ultimately saving lives.
