He and his men were instrumental in breaking through the Gothic Line, and eventually the 442nd, known as the Nisei soldiers, became the most decorated unit in American military history. Medal of Honor-recipient Inouye . Inouye passed in 2012, but his in dedication to his heroic deeds during WWII, his nearly 49 years of service as a United States Senator for Hawaii, and the legacy he left behind, the U.S. Navy welcomes USS Daniel K Inouye (DDG 118) to the fleet.
