U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), train alongside Force Reconnaissance Platoon (FRP), Maritime Raid Force (MRF), 31st MEU, as a part of Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations during MEU exercise (MEUEX) aboard the USAV Calaboza in Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 7, 2021. The Marine Corps ability to conduct VBSS operations is integral to our ability to operate in the Indonesian Pacific theatre. MEUEX is a pre-deployment training exercise that validates and reinforces the MEU’s mission capabilities across all of the Marine subordinate elements. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
