On May 6, 2022, an Air and Marine Operations (AMO) Multi-Role Enforcement Aircraft (MEA) crew from the Miami Air and Marine Brach detected three separate Cuban migrant vessels and coordinated interdiction with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).
The first Cuban migrant sailing vessel was detected at approximately 2:45pm local time, traveling northbound with approximately 18 persons on board. The MEA crew coordinated with USCG Sector Key West to establish an intercept for the vessel. A USCG Islamorada Safe Boat team responded. The migrant vessel was interdicted, and 18 adult males were apprehended.
