KWTX interview with Lieutenant Colonel Ray Lacey, who says facilities on Camp Victory are part life support, part work area, and morale/welfare area; services over 6,000 troops on the south end of Camp Victory and supplements 10,000 troops on the north end. He says they are not attacked regularly and there is no discernible pattern to the attacks. The top priority on base is force protection. The unit uses lots of sandbags and cement to reinforce living and work areas. LTC Lacey says there is an excellent base defense program in place. He hopes to turn the facilities over to the Iraqi government after the conflict. LTC Lacey credits the Corps of Engineers and Iraqi civilians for improving the infrastructure. Says morale is high in Soldiers as they are enjoying a new 5,000-capacity dining facility and new gym.
