AFLCMC's Chief Historian, Kevin Rusnak, describes how AFRL’s predecessors improved technology and techniques for aerial photography. Engineers addressed unique conditions encountered while taking photos from aircraft such as cold temperatures, high speeds and atmospheric haze. By adapting commercial photography equipment and inventing new components to successfully operate in these environments, AFRL predecessor tech proved highly useful in warfare.
