The “Great American Smoke Out” is an annual event held on the third Thursday in November that challenges people to stop smoking. According to the American Cancer Society, about 34 million American adults still smoke #cigarettes, and smoking remains the single largest preventable cause of death and illness worldwide. Smoking causes an estimated 480,000 deaths every year, or about 1 in 5 deaths. The “Great American Smoke Out” challenges people to stop smoking and raises awareness about the many tools they can use to help them quit and begin their journey towards a smoke-free life. Call the JBLM Armed Forces Wellness Center -AWC at 253-966-3757 and ask about their smoking cessation programs. #Smoking and use of #tobacco products by service members impacts military readiness by impairing physical fitness and increasing the possibility of illness. Smoking also harms the health and wellness of our families and retirees.
