The de-commissioned BRP Pangasinan (PS-31), a Miguel Malvar-class corvette of the Philippine Navy, undergoes an environmental assessment in preparation for a littoral live-fire mission during Balikatan 23 at Philippine Naval Base Cavite, Philippines, April 18, 2023. Tagalog for “shoulder-to-shoulder,” Balikatan is an annual bilateral exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military. The exercise provides unique opportunities for participating forces to increase interoperability and provide tangible benefits for the people of the Philippines.
