On October 04, 2021 Sgt. 1st Class Jason R. Schilling, a California National Guard soldier and a teacher at the Oakland Military Institute, engaged with a disturbed individual who had jumped the the perimeter fence of the school. The individual was carrying a backpack and was armed with a pistol with an extended magazine. At that time, the school had over sixty students and staff members on the campus.
