FORT CHAFFEE, Ark.-- Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, conduct intensive Improvised Explosive Device (IED) training through the Asymmetric Threat Training Center, May 13, 2023.
The training included both classroom instruction, and practical field exercises, to include simulated IEDs placed in a controlled environment. Through hands on drills, Soldiers develop the skills and knowledge they need in order to effectively and safely respond, minimizing the risk of casualties.
IED training is an essential part of modern military operations, particularly in areas where there is a high risk of IED attacks. These explosive weapons are typically made from locally available materials. IED training in the military is focused on teaching Soldiers how to detect, disable, and dispose of IEDs in the field, in order to protect themselves and civilians from harm.
Staff Sgt. Conrad Ballance and Pfc. Jayden Serra, Missouri Army National Guard, explain the importance of pre-deployment training before gaining real world experience. More than 40 Missouri National Guardsmen are deploying with 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment for Operation Spartan Shield.
