U.S. Army Paratroopers with the 173rd Airborne Brigade participate in a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery in Normandy, France, May 28, 2023. Paratroopers provided the color guard and performed the 21-gun salute while wreaths were laid down by civilian officials in remembrance of the fallen.
On June 6, 1944, more than 150,000 troops of the Allied Forces invaded Normandy, France, by sea and air. More than 23,000 paratroopers participated in the invasion.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
