The high logistical value of urban environments to modern warfare makes it a necessity to train to defend, as the Marine Corps invests in the lethality of Marine Corps forces by maximizing the ability of commanders to employ tactical units across the depth and breadth of a non-linear battlespace, as part of Force Design 2030.
