On March 11 2011, Japan experienced an earthquake with a 9.0 magnitude, causing a wave of destruction including the nuclear meltdown of Fukushima. YOKOTA AIR BASE had to make difficult decisions to keep family members safe, and simotainously give Japan aid.
Due to this experienced YOKOTA AIR BASE is now even more prepared with the implementation of Non-combatant Evacuation Operations, and Emergency Evacuation Plans.
"With the uncertainty events like these bring, preparedness is the best way to offset the stress that comes down on families" Col Brett Cochran, 374th AW deputy commander.
