Rear Adm. Abdou Sène, Chief of Naval Staff, Senegalese Navy, speaks about his experiences during the International Seapower Symposium (ISS) in Newport, RI, Sept. 21, 2023. ISS is a biennial event hosted by the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) at the United States Naval War College since 1969. The symposium provides a forum for dialogue that bolsters maritime security by providing opportunities for international heads of navies and coast guards to collaborate, develop trust, and further maritime training. TRANSCRIPT: I'm Rear Adm. Abdou Sène, Chief of Naval Staff, Senegalese Navy. ISS is very important for us, because it's an opportunity that's given to us in order to meet with the chiefs of naval staff of countries from the entire world, and also the coast guard chiefs. During this time we can discuss key issues that are related to our navy and coast guard missions. Everything that has been said here is very interesting. I really enjoyed the reception, which gave us an opportunity to chat with each other. I also really appreciated the presentations, the working sessions, and the discussions, during which we could have discussions about contemporary issues that relate to maritime security and the governance of the seas in a more general sense, but everything has been very interesting during this ISS. This has been very enriching for my country, as we've been able to exchange viewpoints with other navies in order to establish relationships based on friendship and cooperation. We have the possibility of cooperating with other navies that are here. Indeed ISS brings together navies from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. This is an opportunity for exchanges, meetings and cooperation. To conclude, I would like to warmly thank the Chief of Naval Operations of the US Navy as well as all of the US Navy staff for the very warm welcome and ideal conditions that were provided to myself and to my spouse during our stay in Newport. And it really brings back great memories of Newport because I am an alumni of the Naval War College. In fact, I attended this college twice. Thank you
