It can be easy to take breathing for granted. Breathing is an automatic reflex which is done without even realizing it. But our lungs are not impervious to threats. Our adversaries have the ability to deploy chemical or biological threats which can pull a service member out of duty and into the hospital.
The Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Chemical and Biological Technologies Department in its role as the Joint Science and Technology Office for Chemical and Biological Defense has invested in a joint project at City College of New York and Columbia University to research the possibility of controlling lung inflammation.
