Washington, D.C. -- Today we honor the 50th Anniversary of Integrating Women into the U.S. Coast Guard!
Their courage, dedication to service and accomplishments are part of the Coast Guard’s historic achievements and their work continues to advance our mission. Admiral Fagan, Commandant of the Coast Guard celebrated this historic milestone by hosting a celebration event at the U.S. Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C. today.
The integration occurred when Congress passed Public Law 93-174 on December 5, 1973, allowing women to enlist in the Coast Guard. This law also challenged the longstanding policies of gender segregation and paved the way toward a more inclusive workforce. U.S. Coast Guard video by Telfair H. Brown
