Recruits train and test on basic seamanship skills at USS Marlinespike at Recruit Training Command (RTC), Great Lakes, Illinois. The assessment is a hands-on learning curriculum where recruits perform simulated line-handling evolutions. It tests recruits on their war-fighting skills before they reach the fleet. Boot camp is approximately 10 weeks and all enlistees into the U.S. Navy begin their careers at the command. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy’s only boot camp.
